Sabbath

______________________

Welcome to week 2  of our journey through spiritual disciplines, prayer, and fasting – Regardless of if you have been with through the entire journey or today marks your starting point—welcome to Sabbath.

This is a space to rest, to breathe, and to be reminded that your worth is not in what you do, but in who you belong to. Let today be a sacred pause as you intentionally draw near to God.

Sabbath is a sacred day set apart for connection—with God, with others, and with your own soul. It is a time for rest, renewal, and reflection on how God has been stirring your heart throughout the week.

Did you know that Christian beliefs and practices have shaped not only culture but even modern laws? We’re familiar with businesses like Chick-fil-A and Hobby Lobby taking a stand to set apart Sundays as a day of rest—but this practice goes beyond corporate values.

In fact, legal legislation has also been influenced by foundational Christian principles. One example is North Carolina’s “Blue Laws,” which are still in effect today. These laws restrict certain activities on Sundays in recognition of the Sabbath. As recently as 2017, legislation was passed that lifted a full ban on Sunday alcohol sales—but still prohibits sales before noon. Prior to that, alcohol sales were completely prohibited on Sundays, a tradition that dates all the way back to the early 1900s and the Prohibition era.
These laws serve as a reminder of how deeply faith has influenced not just hearts—but also history, culture, and even public policy.

As we pause today and reflect on the past week, take time to practice what you’ve been learning about what it means to BE LIKE JESUS Let today be a moment to slow down, breathe deeply, and absorb the truth of who He is—and who He’s forming you to become.

You are made in His image. So ask:
Jesus, how am I reflecting You in all that I do?
What in my life is standing in the way of what You desire for me?
What does Your will look like in this season of my life?
You’ve entrusted me with gifts, people, and influence—how can I steward them for Your Kingdom?
How are You transforming me into Your image?
Where am I allowing the enemy to gain ground, and how can I surrender that to You?

“As I Sabbath today, Jesus, I want to BE LIKE YOU—formed by Your Spirit, grounded in Your truth, and living in a way that brings glory to Your name.”
